Garage floor epoxy can be applied upon a concrete surface in order to protect it from damage such as caused by spills and oil stains. There are a great deal of options in terms of applying protective measures. In regards to epoxy flooring, one has to spend a lot of time and effort in ensuring that the floor is devoid of any dust and dirt particles before the actual paint is applied.
Consequently, there are specific steps that one has to follow in order to ensure that the epoxy garage floor coating remains durable and functional for a longer duration. The first step is to brush the walls around the area upon which the paint is to be applied. Particularly, spider webs and dust producing particles have to be removed. One also has to place painters tape upon the specific areas of the wall which should not come in contact with the epoxy covering. The best way to ensure that is to remove any additional tape portions by using a knife in order to prevent the tape from coming into contact with the floor.
If a sander has been used on the floor then it is important to use a stiff bristled broom to remove any sand particles that might interfere with the process of application of the garage floor epoxy paint. On the other hand, a completely new concrete surface should be cleaned with a floor etching cleaner that can completely remove any sand, dust and dirt particles. In such as situation, a floor sander should not be used. After that process, one has to clean the entire floor with water and wait for it to dry. This ensures that the entire surface is clean and ready for application of epoxy garage floor coating.
The next step is to apply the coating upon the entire floor area especially the parts where it touches the tape encased portions of the wall. A 3/8 inch nap roller is recommended for use and the epoxy paint is poured into the roller pan. In order to paint efficiently without wasting any time, one should start the process from the farthest end of the room. After the paint has been completely applied to the floor, one has to let it dry out. Upon completion of the drying process, one of the most essential steps is to apply a clear coat on top of the epoxy coating using the same process as before.
Once the clear coating has dried off, the painter’s tape is removed from the walls and the garage floor epoxy surface is ready to be used.
