Most garages have a standard concrete floor destined for cracks, chips and other unsightly mars, but those who go with an epoxy garage floor will avoid these problems. Epoxy for garage flooring comes in multiple colors and a variety of thickness providing a durable coating.

A good epoxy contains a high solid count and is not water based. Many on the market are cheap thin water based epoxy, but a lasting epoxy is commercial grade based on a strong chemical solvent. In addition, good epoxies will not only work on concrete, but masonry, steel, zinc and even metal surface as well. The application of epoxy coating for garage floors is a several part process that must be followed for the best results.

The first step in preparing a garage floor is to etch and clean the floor. Many companies produce cleaning and etching solutions that will save money and labor by eliminating any dirt and oil hidden in the flooring. Immediately after etching and cleaning the bare flooring, coat the floor in a penetrating primer and sealer. Primer and sealer keep any moisture from coming through the floor and help the final epoxy coat to bond perfectly.

The final step is to apply the epoxy itself, or if provided by the company, a clear topcoat can be applied first. Either way, the application of the epoxy flooring is the final step in the process. Most experts suggest at least two coatings be applied to ensure everything is covered and all surfaces are fully protected. After applying the epoxy, wait 3 to 7 days while the epoxy is curing before walking or driving on the surface.

The biggest advantage of epoxy coating for a garage floor is a lasting coating that resists grease, oil, chipping, and any other chemicals that can stain the floor. Additionally, it makes a garage floor easy to clean under any circumstances. For those who place a high value on aesthetics, the advantage of colored epoxy is that it will almost never fade and since it is more durable than paint, it won’t chip or break as it bonds to the flooring rather than just coats.

Over the long term, using epoxy on the floor of a garage is the cheapest method because it saves on the high cost of cleaning chemicals and labor time getting rid of stains and making repairs. To find garage floor epoxy is not as hard as one might think. The easiest way is to perform a web search and evaluate the products that pop up by reading reviews and information on each. Locally, garage floor epoxy can be purchased at quality paint stores, flooring stores, and general purpose stores such as Lowes or Home Depot.

We walk on it all the time, and often never think to look down and consider how it looks, but once you’ve tried taking advantage of an epoxy garage floor, you’ll never want to look up. The shiny, professional look epoxy can give to a floor will make you feel like you’re parking in a store.

And in addition to the aesthetic benefits, the material offers an excellent resistance to stains and water damage. If you’ve ever gotten annoyed with the look of faded oil stains or cracked granite in your garage, maybe it’s time to start asking yourself if epoxy is the solution. Also known as polyepoxide, epoxy is a versatile and sophisticated with many different applications due to its advantages in insulation and adhesion. It’s even used by some artists in combination with various pigments, layered to created complex three-dimensional pictures.

Despite its power and potential for many different uses, epoxy remains an extremely safe and easy to use substance. Accidental spills can be cleaned up with vinegar, White vinegar is particularly known for its qualities in cleaning even epoxy that has just started to harden. But by using simple standard safety measures, cleaning up shouldn’t be necessary.

By coating your garage floor with this wonderfully versatile material, you can get the same kind of impressive gleam that is often seen in car shops and malls. The coating will also smooth over the blemishes and imperfections inherent in concrete and other standard garage flooring materials, which further enhances the beauty of your garage.

Finally, if you should happen to make a mess after the epoxy has fully hardened into a protective coating, you’ll find that stains and liquids of all sorts wipe off cleanly, as though your floor were a kitchen counter! Cleaning a garage is often considered an awful chore, but with epoxy protecting the floor, cleaning becomes a breeze.

Epoxy is also an extremely affordable product, with smaller tubes selling for about the cost of a fast food combo meal. At those kinds of prices, can you afford to not use epoxy? If you think about all the time and hardship it can save you, not to mention the feeling of pride it will give you to have a beautiful shining garage, you’ll probably come to the conclusion that there’s little reason to not coat your garage floor with epoxy. It’s a modern, sophisticated floor coating perfect for your modern, sophisticated life. And if the process of using epoxy is a little intimidating, don’t worry.

There are amateur-friendly packages available that offer pre-measured cups for mixing, fast curing ability, and clear instructions anyone can follow, so you don’t stress yourself out using it properly. If you give it a try, you’ll probably soon ask yourself how you lived without it in your garage.

Epoxy garage floors are a great way to beautify your garage. Often times your garage floors are stained from oil, transmission fluids, rust or corrosion stains. Cleaning these floors becomes problematic, and the overall appearance of your garage becomes dingy.

For those who like to do weekend projects, installing an epoxy floor takes approximately two to three days. If you have a one-car garage you’ll need one kit. If you have a two-car garage you’ll need two kits. Kits can be purchased at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or the Internet for approximately $50-$75 dollars. Quickrete is a brand often used by homeowners. These kits come in variety of colors. These kits also include flakes that can be used after applying the hardened compound with the base.

You need to prepare the garage surface by cleaning out the entire garage. Power washing the floor is recommended. Then you should repair all cracks, and get as much grime off the floor before using the de-greaser or etcher solution. This is important, because it prepares the concrete for the next step. The etching solution allows the concrete to adhere to the epoxy. This process usually takes a day, because you’ll need the garage floor to be completely dry before applying the epoxy coat. One must wear protective glasses and work boots when using the etching agent. Repeat this step until the solution doesn’t fizz on your concrete floor.

On day two, use a paintbrush and roller to apply the base mixed with epoxy hardener. You’ll want to start in the back of the garage and move towards the front, so you don’t paint yourself into a corner. Cut in the baseboards with a paintbrush, and then use a roller to save time and energy. Once you mix the base and hardener, you must apply the mixture within 2 hours, so work diligently. If you want to add color flakes, sprinkle onto floor after you’ve painted a section. After letting the floor dry for 8-12 hours, you may want to apply a sealer coat, which will make the floor shine. Many kits recommend two sealer coats.

The benefits of doing the project yourself are that you’ll save money on the installation. Usually professionals will charge between $400-$600 to install the floor. But the downsides are if you may a mistake, the floor may not come out as you envisioned. Also, the work can be hazardous; you’ll need to make certain you have plenty of ventilation because of the toxic chemicals involved. Preparation work is a key if the project is to be successful. If you don’t have the patience, hire a professional to install the floor. Whether installing the floor yourself or hiring a professional, you’ll be happy with the results.

If you are having trouble keeping your garage floor clean or protected, garage floor epoxy can do wonders to transform or restore your garage. By using an epoxy garage floor coating you can eliminate hours of scrubbing away grease, oil, and dirt. The coating can be purchased at many different home improvement stores as well as online in different styles and colors. Applying the coating is simple and can be done in a few hours.

There are many different benefits to epoxy garage floors. They last a long time without getting scratches and flaking off the original concrete floor. They are very easy to clean with only water and occasionally soap. Many garages end up with oil and grease on the floor from car repairs that is very difficult to clean. With epoxy garage floor coatings however, a soft bristled broom and water will remove it in a small amount of time without scrubbing.

Epoxy garage flooring can be purchased at any home improvement store and at many online websites. The epoxy comes in large paint buckets (five gallon) that can be purchased in different colors. Enough to cover 300 square feet can cost you around $250 and enough to cover 2500 square feet can cost you up to $1700. The grade of the epoxy whether it be commercial, industrial, or regular strength can also affect the price. Some online retailers like carguygarage.com offers epoxy paint chips that can make your garage floor shine with sparkly colors to make your floor look like a show room. If you have a special car you love to show off this may be the perfect option to making your “showroom” unique.

Epoxy garage floor coverings are easy to put in yourself in only a few short hours. If you have a bleach cleaner, a stiff bristled brush, a garden hose, paint rollers, soft clothed paint roller covers, and the epoxy floor coverings then you can put it in yourself. First, clean the entire garage floor really well with the bleach cleaner. Let it dry completely before applying the epoxy flooring. Then using the paintbrushes roll on a thin layer of the floor covering. A standard garage (two car) will take under two hours to complete. After you have rolled on the first coat wait 12 hours until it has had a chance to dry and apply a second coat. Wait a week until you park cars on it, but then you will have a brand new garage floor that is ready for you to use.

An epoxy garage floor is an easy do it yourself flooring that can help keep garage floor messes from being a hassle. They look nice and can match any home décor. They last for a length of time that makes them price efficient especially when put in yourself. Go to your local home store and ask about your options today.

Protecting your garage floors from damage is very important which is why an epoxy garage floor is a necessity for homeowners and business owners alike. Garage floors are especially prone to damage from the weight of vehicles, fallen objects and other instances that can cause dents and cracks to a concrete floor. If left unrepaired the damage to a garage floor can be become significantly worse resulting in the crumbling of the floor which may require significant repair in the future. There are many ways that an individual can be prevent damage to a garage floor but, the epoxy method is by the far the best option when seeking to maintain and improve the look of a garage floor.

Many people decide to perform the epoxy method on their garage floors without professional help. A garage floor epoxy system can be purchased from any home hardware store. The application process should be followed very carefully to ensure that the results are good. The floor should be cleaned thoroughly by sweeping away any debris and some people even wash the floor with a mild soap and water mixture to ensure cleanliness. In some cases where there are very obvious cracks and in the garage floor it may be necessary for the user to sand the garage floor. Sanding of the garage floor will ensure that the application of the epoxy seals to the floor correctly.

One of the most important factors in successfully applying an epoxy coating to a garage floor is the resistance of moisture and other coatings. Moisture should be avoided at all costs during the application process of epoxy to your garage floor. If you decide to prep your garage floor with a mild soap and water wash prior to applying the epoxy make sure the floor completely dry. If necessary wait a few hours or even an entire day before applying the epoxy. Likewise, other coatings such as oil, paints, glues etc. will also make it difficult for the epoxy to bind to your garage floor. Your garage floor should be completely free of any substances prior to applying the epoxy.

The epoxy kit will supply instructions how to apply the product to your garage floor. The epoxy has to be mixed prior to use. The epoxy paint does dry quickly so it is necessary that you work quickly but neatly, efficiently and thoroughly. The epoxy paint should be applied using an extended roller brush so that you will be able to cover a large portion of the garage floor at one time. Make sure that your applications are evenly applied to all parts of the garage floor. If you are planning on coating the garage floor with more than one coating of epoxy then you must allow the first coating to dry. This drying process can take up to a day or two for each coat. After applying the epoxy paint you should wait at least 24 hours to allow it to dry completely so that you can add a protective sealant coat. This coat will provide shine to your epoxy garage floor and help to protect your newly epoxy painted garage floor from any topical damage.
